Types of Braces and Orthodontic Appliances

Our office uses the latest innovative orthodontic appliances and technological advancements in the field to treat our patients as effeciently as possible.

Palate Expansion:

This is one of the most common orthodontic appliances which expands the upper jaw in a growing child. It is used to treat crowding of the upper jaw, narrow palates, crossbites, and underbites, and when used at the right time it often prevents the extraction of permanent teeth.

Twin Block:

This is a removable functional appliance used to treat a severe horizontal or vertical overbite in a growing child. It brings the lower jaw forward into its proper alignment with the upper jaw and improves the patients profile as well.

Herbst:

This is a fixed functional appliance used to treat a severe horizontal or vertical overbite in a growing child. It brings the lower jaw forward into its proper alignment with the upper jaw and improves the patients profile as well.

Schwartz:

This is a removable appliance used to expand the teeth and/or jaw in a child or adult to create space for the permanent teeth.  It can used used on the upper or lower jaw and often prevents the need to extract permanent teeth.

Pendulum:

This is a fixed appliance for the upper jaw that pushes the molars back into their proper bite alignment. It is a more modern replacement for the traditional headgear appliance and does not require patient cooperation.

Pend-X:

The Pend-X appliance is used to expand the upper jaw and push the upper molars back simultaneously. It is one of the most effective appliances for creating space for severely crowded teeth and preventing extractions of permanent teeth.

Facemask:

This appliance is used in growing children with a severe underbite to advance the position of the upper jaw in relation to the lower jaw.  When worn properly it often prevents the need for corrective jaw surgery when the patient is older and growth is complete.
